The Fulbright Program and the Brazilian government’s Science Without Borders Program have teamed up to provide 30 new grants for senior and junior U.S. researchers in the STEM (sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields and five post-doctoral grants in all disciplines.

Five Distinguished Chair awards of approximately US $29,000 are available to top senior researchers in the following areas: Organic Synthesis; New Materials in Nanotechnology; Artificial Intelligence; Immunology; and Molecular Biology.

Twenty-five regular (“Core”) awards of approximately US $14,800 are available to outstanding junior researchers in all STEM fields.

All grants last for four months (one academic semester), during which time grantees must conduct research and/or engage in teaching activities in a Brazilian graduate program or at a Brazilian national institute of science and technology.

Additionally, five all-disciplines post-doctoral grants of US $3,000 per month are available.

U.S. applicants must be affiliated with an accredited Brazilian Ph.D. graduate program or accredited research network and must obtain a letter of recommendation from the host institution. Affiliation is established by candidates’ contacting the program coordinator at the institution of interest. The Fulbright Commission in Brazil will verify affiliations before awards are made.

U.S. citizenship and a Ph.D. at the time of application are required. Knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish is desirable but not required.

The application deadline is August 1, 2012. Grants may be initiated in August 2013 or March 2014.
