DOC Sponsorship for Symposia/Conferences

The ACS Division of Organic Chemistry (DOC) has allotted a limited set of funds to support organic chemistry-related symposia and conferences. The DOC will consider requests for funding of up to $500 per symposia/conference, based on available funding. Additional funding can be requested for one or more DOC-sponsored “best poster award” prizes to student and postdoc presenters.

Requirements

The DOC Symposium Programming Committee (SPC) will evaluate requests to co-sponsor symposia/conferences based on their potential to attract and engage an audience, timeliness, and alignment of the mission of the DOC. Conferences that attract existing ACS DOC members or have a plan to encourage attendees to join the DOC will be given higher priority for co-sponsorship.

The DOC encourages sponsorship requests for symposia/conferences that fully reflect the diversity of the membership in the DOC. Therefore, we encourage that selection of speakers for symposia/conferences be balanced when considering gender, groups historically underrepresented in the profession, research area, employment sector, and career stage. We also strongly encourage that a lactation room is made available for conference attendees.

The Conference Chair must be a member of the DOC to submit a request.

Due Date

For priority consideration, proposals should be submitted one year prior to the date of the symposium/conference. Requests less than 6 months before an event will not be considered. Funding is based on available financial resources of the Division.

Process

The conference chair can submit the following information by accessing the Request for Support online form that is available to Organic Division members only (use your ACS username/password to access the form). The request will be sent immediately to the Chair of the SPC.

  1. Title, date and location of symposia/conference
  2. Website for the symposia/conference
  3. Name and contact info of the organizing chair
  4. A list of invited/keynote speakers, indicating those who are DOC members (ACS Numbers are appreciated–One can get this by logging into the DOC website then clicking on “Profile” in the top right of the screen)
  5. A Diversity statement
  6. Complete the Request for Support online form

Questions

Use the Contact Us form to submit questions on the process for the program.

Funding Transfer

Upon approval of funding, details on how to acquire the funding will be sent to the conference chair.

DOC Acknowledgement

Division sponsored symposia are required to use this slide (available as powerpoint file or PDF file) at the beginning and end of their session.

Conferences receiving support should use the Division’s logo as an acknowledgement along with the other financial sponsors. It should not be displayed in a manner that might lead attendees to believe the Division is organizing and/or responsible for the meeting/symposia.
